Nature and Culture Trail Klockarudden

1. Welcome to Klockarudden

This is the beginning of the Klockarudden cultural trail. There are 11 different stops along this path, where you’ll find information about the area’s natural and cultural history. There are two other cultural trails – one at Kyrkudden and the other in Eriksberg’s forest on Djurö.
Klockarudden forms the south-western part of Skepparön. The area is shown here at the bottom left on a map from 1704. Skepparön used to be a separate island, divided from Djurö by a narrow strait, which is marked on the map.
Djurhamn, which nowadays is the area’s postal address, refers to the large natural harbour on the eastern side of Djurö. You can see the harbour on the map, north by north-west of the compass rose, on the landward side of the islands of Sandholmen, Långholmen and Kuggholmen. It was a busy place from the 15th century until the 18th century, being used by both foreign and domestic warships and merchant ships. The entire area of Klockarudden is now owned by Djurönäset’s hotel and conference centre.
To get to stop number 2 continue straight down the hill.
