Nature and Culture Trail Hamnskogen

8. The Old Path

You’ve now reached the end of Eriksbergsvägen. Here you turn off into the woods and continue along an old path. If you carry on to the end of the path you come out on the other side of the forest on Sollenkrokavägen.
The hill near Sollenkrokavägen, is nowadays a modern residential area. This was the site of three farms in the 16th and 17th centuries - the first permanent inhabitation on Djurö. The farms also owned pasture and woodland on the nearby islands. In the summer the cattle were let out to graze there.
The path leads in to the forest known as Eriksbergsskogen. This was formerly used as a winter road and connecting link. People from the islands outside Djurö could travel over the ice with a horse and sleigh and then take the path to Djurö village.
Follow the path into the forest until you get to stop number 9.
